Hong Jee Hui
Jee Hui Hong’s world unfolds in muted hues, where uncertain substances intertwine and blur into one. Forms refuse to stand independently; instead, they dissolve into one another, weaving a tapestry of fluid chaos. Her canvas allows objects to merge; their boundaries softened into a dreamlike ambiguity. Brushstrokes, paint, resin, and fragments converge within the frame. Amidst the soft tones, silhouettes of flickering candles, flowers, faces, hands, and feet emerge like distant echoes. Shards of glass slice through the surface. Once discarded objects are found and transfigured into new visual existences. Her work lives in a space where light and shadow intertwine, where matter refuses confinement and instead shapes its own language of expression. Within the canvas, these materials embrace light before vanishing once more. Floating through layers of color, letters drift and wander on the canvas. Meanwhile, brushstrokes surge forward, uncontainable in their emotion. The unraveling and weight of unseen thoughts—these find a quiet life within (name)’s work. Always on the verge of taking shape yet never quite solidifying, they reach endlessly toward the visible realm.
