About the work

Healing Forest is a space filled with seasons I want to stay in, flowers I want to bloom, and friends I want to get to know. It is a place where I can indulge in my whimsiness in a tired reality, and it is also a place where I can run away and hide. The world on the canvas, built up spontaneously without sketches, is a trace of constantly going back and forth between the remnants of childhood and the world of imagination. The working method of repeatedly adding paint and throwing it out like a subconscious follows creates a rustic yet lyrical style. During the day, I work as a jewelry designer, and the world of my paintings that I work on after work is like a drawing diary drawn following my subconscious. If the diary of my elementary school days is a description of the things that filled the day, the works like the diary I draw when I become middle-aged are similar to the pursuit of an ideal world that is out of touch with reality. The icon that is like a peaceful fairy tale world may not be an image that is drawn because it is peaceful, but it may be a struggle to remember and protect the purity that is left in the cold reality.

The artist's work invites us to pause from our busy lives and direct our attention to the whispers within our hearts. This is likely because her work, even though it is full of the small and ordinary things of life, evokes a dreamy and free-spirited feeling reminiscent of childhood memories filled with all sorts of imaginations. Furthermore, the clumsy and unadorned appearance, reminiscent of a child's, also captures attention. These rough but heartfelt feelings seem to make the entire work soft and warm. The screen is full of childlike freedom, unspoiled purity, and honesty. As if following the old saying that great skill is rather clumsy, the artist's work transcends the confines of skill and style and freely conveys the artist's heart as it is.(Min Byung-jik, Curator)
