"Heavy Snow" is a work where a quickly painted image on a small canvas is replicated again with a pencil on a larger paper. Undergoing a process that could be described as re-drawing or translating expression, the image acquires the characteristics of both mediums. The swift strokes of the brush and the slower movement of the pencil are simultaneously revealed, as are the physical properties of wet and dry materials. The redrawn picture maintains the form of the original painting while softening its intense expressiveness. Shapes created by accidental effects like dripping or smudging are given a sense of inevitability as they are meticulously depicted using a pencil, as is. The work points to the dynamically drawn shapes but imparts a feeling of retracing them with a static, sober gaze. This is also a work that questions the whereabouts of meaning somewhere in the process of drawing.
