The "Night Sea" series began as a reminiscence of the nights spent in Jeju Island with my mother. We were anxious about the things we couldn't support each other in, each from our own circumstances, and we were exchanging formulaic conversations in an effort to pretend we didn't realize this. As we were merely talking about trivial matters, our anxiety was more clearly revealed in the silence between our conversations than in the conversations themselves. We were a mother and daughter who got along well, but ultimately, we were 'two' individuals who couldn't fully understand, forgive, or comfort each other. I wanted to reveal our anxiety that I could find in the quiet silence of that day. I believe that the anxiety stemming from our relationship was less about being between mother and daughter and more about the individual feelings of isolation and emptiness tangled haphazardly in the context of human relationships. Thus, I didn't want this painting to be seen merely as a depiction of a mother and daughter.

Jin Han investigates and depicts incidents related to universal feelings of sadness and anxiety. She is currently studying visual arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, she actively exhibits his work to the public. The artist analyses emotions such as melancholy and an inherent sense of isolation, beginning with a sensation of anxiousness based on fragments of autobiographical recollections. The artist creates a distinctive sense of self-using thin, overlapping, and dripping brushstrokes to 'bring out' the memories and feelings onto the canvas. Through her art, she offers contemporary audiences a message of shared experience, empathy, and healing.
