"Unified- It is a smiling crowd, yet at times it also evokes fear." TAPPEI is a tattoo artist and graphic designer from Osaka, Japan, currently based at his studio, TAPPEI ROOM, located in Nakameguro, Tokyo. He began his tattoo practice in earnest in 2015 and quickly gained attention for his free, witty drawing style that resembles spontaneous doodles. His work extends far beyond tattooing, encompassing collaborations across fashion, graphic design, and art direction, through which he has continuously expanded his distinctive visual language. TAPPEI is not simply an artist who creates tattoos or illustrations. His drawings carry emotion, transforming the human body into a canvas and giving rise to a form of art that moves with it. Renowned brands such as Nike, Swatch, BEAMS, and UMBRO have embraced TAPPEI’s unique visual language to strengthen their brand identities and leave a lasting impression on a wide audience. In these collaborations, his drawings do not recede into the brands’ existing visual systems; rather, they introduce a new sensibility that enriches and redefines them. Positioned as a singular figure who fluidly crosses the boundaries between fashion and art, TAPPEI’s drawings transcend conventional artistic expression and evolve into a code through which people articulate their personal style. His graphics circulate in the form of tattoos, clothing, and accessories, while his emotionally charged, iconic imagery resonates intuitively with younger generations.

Born in 1993 in Osaka, the artist began their career as a tattoo artist. Since 2014, they have been based in Tokyo, working first as a staff member at a Harajuku apparel multishop, before expanding into graphic design. They later established their own tattoo studio and office, "TAPPEI ROOM," in Nakameguro. In 2022, they collaborated with brands such as NIKE, UNDERCOVER, and BEAMS. In 2023, they made their debut as a guest tattoo artist overseas and began publishing a four-panel comic series in the culture magazine EYESCREAM. They work across a wide range of media, using everything from canvas and their own body to human skin, paper, and clothing as platforms for expression.

CDA exhibition mainly focuses on paintings but subjects to all kinds of genres and mediums such as sculpture, prints, photography, animation, and video. The form of the exhibitions is also balanced, with a mix of solo and group exhibitions, as well as art fairs and collaborative projects.
