My paintings are inspired by everyday scenes that come to mind. I look at moments that catch my eye or are captured spontaneously in a new light, and in the course of my work, I crop or enlarge parts of them to give them a new meaning as paintings, beyond their realistic meaning. 

"In" depicts a scene from a soccer game involving a line-out. In almost all ball games, including soccer, possession of the ball passes to the opponent when it crosses the line of play, and the slightest touch on the line is ruled "in" rather than "out". In recent years, soccer has introduced a video assistant referee, or VAR, to help distinguish even the smallest of differences. At first glance, the fact that the ball was ruled 'in' even when it was at least 95% out of bounds made me curious about boundaries and irony, which are often important in painting.
