The entire tufted surface is completely sealed within thick silver packaging. Although there is clearly volume and structure inside, the highly reflective surface and dense wrapping make it impossible to determine what is contained within. Not only is the form concealed, but even through touch, the internal texture and structure remain difficult to perceive or identify. The wrapped surface functions not merely as protection for what lies inside, but as a boundary that delays recognition itself. Something undoubtedly exists beneath the surface, yet because it can never be fully confirmed, only speculation and sensation remain on the outside. Until it is opened, the interior continues to exist in a suspended state, and the unseen object becomes even more strongly imagined. Here, the surface is not simply a membrane that encloses an exterior form, but a structure that regulates access to information and experience itself. In its completely sealed condition, the surface simultaneously conceals something while continually provoking its presence in the imagination.

EUM Hyunchul studied hotel management in Switzerland and later majored in film in Korea. After working across film, advertising, music videos, and as an MTV Creative Director, he developed his own distinct way of observing and interpreting images through these diverse experiences. For him, tufting is not simply a craft technique, but a way of transforming images and sensations into tangible surfaces. The repetitive hand movements, density, and subtle differences in texture become a method of constructing the surface like a painting, while at the same time revealing a strong sense of materiality similar to sculpture.
