About the work

In this work, Genesis Kai slips a scene of contemporary leisure into a classical Korean landscape. Figures recline on beach chairs with books and wine, drifting through a terrain of mountains, temples, and red water that looks like it was once painted for scholars and monks, not tourists. The atmosphere is easy with bodies stretched out, time loosened, desire unhurried. Yet the title insists on another presence: Even Here, The Mountain Watches. The mountain does not move, it witnesses. It remembers other forms of attention through pilgrimage, study, devotion - and now regards this soft intrusion of vacation with a patient, unblinking gaze. The loungers sink slightly into red, their chairs bleeding into the ground, as if relaxation itself leaves a trace on the terrain that holds it. Within the framework of Pothosophy, this image becomes a study in “relaxed pothos”: desire not as crisis, but as low, steady hum oscillating like a wave. Longing has not disappeared; it has simply changed posture. It lies back, reads, sips, pauses. The landscape, however, keeps the tension. History, inheritance, and the One remain present as quiet pressure in the background depicted as the watching mountain, the temple, the flowing rivers. Even Here, The Mountain Watches suggests that there is no outside to the field of desire and memory. Even in rest, we are held in relation to place, to past, to the eyes of what was here before us.

Paris / Hong Kong · b. unknown

Genesis Kai is the AI-infused alter ego of Korean-Hong Kong new media artist Ming Shiu. Through her conceptual framework “Pothosophy,” she redefines desire not as lack but as a structuring tension that shapes reality. Working across AI-driven collaboration, video installation, and hanji prints, she reinterprets East Asian heritage and diasporic memory through a contemporary philosophical lens. Since her debut at Asia Now (2022) in France, her works have been exhibited internationally across Paris, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

Located in the heart of Le Marais in Paris, ArtVerse is a contemporary digital art gallery founded by Sébastien Borget and Arthur Madrid (The Sandbox), a first-generation digital and crypto art curator. Under the concept of “URL to IRL,” ArtVerse brings digital creations into the physical world, exploring the evolving relationship between virtual works and real-life presence. As the boundaries between the material and immaterial continue to blur, ArtVerse champions a new wave of artists who blend traditional techniques with digital innovation. The gallery elevates both emerging and established digital artists, positioning them within the broader discourse of contemporary art. With a thoughtful and forward-looking curatorial approach, ArtVerse serves as a vital platform to understand how image, memory, and artistic expression are being reshaped in the post-digital age.
